Untitled Records are delighted to announce the upcoming Asian album release of hotly tipped Australian favorites, The Jezabels. The band’s debut full-length album, Prisoner, will be available in markets across South East Asia in June, coinciding with a four-date promotional tour of the region.
From humble beginnings in a Sydney University band competition to winners of the prestigious Australian Music Prize, singer Hayley Mary, keys player Heather Shannon, guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kaloper have fashioned a musical cocktail of power and elegance that has resonated with fans across continents. Their polarities of grandiose theatrics and gothic intensity melding into a trademark sound that is moody, mysterious and epic, whilst buzzing with the group’s ever-present knack for an irresistible pop hook.
Already Gold certified and #1 on the iTunes chart in Australia, Prisoner is a panoramic study of tension and emancipation, from the echoing stone cathedral of the title track to the sun-blasted morning of the first single, Endless Summer; from the cloistered atmospherics of the instrumental interlude, Austerlitz, to the chiming and climbing pop of Deep Wide Ocean and the quiet reflecting
pool of Peace of Mind.
“The lyrics are set out as a letter to a prisoner,” singer Hayley says. “I’m interested in the idea of your personal role in your own oppression. To a certain extent the album explores the idea of looking at yourself as a prisoner and asking about the reasons for that. Are they external or are they internal?”
The first international act signed to Untitled Entertainment’s new record label division – Untitled Records, The Jezabels were ideal partners from the start. “The label is there to work hand in hand with our live business, and only with artists that understand the value and importance of touring,” says Untitled Entertainment’s Business Director Dash Nagata. “The Jezabels are a band we truly believe in. One we can grow alongside, who share our vision of wanting to develop Asia as a region for fresh and exciting music.”
A tireless work ethic remains central to The Jezabels. Their commitment to Asia has already seen them take part in the The People’s Party cross-regional series (along with Bombay Bicycle Club, Metronomy and The Naked & Famous) in January. Now they’re back for their first set of headlining club dates as part of a promotional album tour that will encompass Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
